Urgent Notice

FDA seeks public comments on reclassification of marijuana

Please be advised that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking public comments concerning abuse potential, actual abuse, medical usefulness, trafficking and the impact of reclassifying marijuana from its current schedule I category under current U.S. Federal Law. The Federal Government is seeking input regarding marijuana’s current classification and legal status in conjunction to the World Health Organization (WHO) considering its reclassification of marijuana and other substances and any medical benefits which may exist. Any comments received, will be considered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services when it prepares a scientific and medical evaluation response to the World Health Organization. As expected, marijuana legalization advocates are supporting any efforts which would result in the Federal Government reclassifying marijuana and removing it from the Schedule I category.

The National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association (NDASA) opposes any efforts to reclassify marijuana and legalize its use until the many questions which exist relating to impairment, the effects of marijuana use on the brain and other questions which directly impact our local communities, public safety and the health of the general public are resolved.
NDASA encourages all members and interested parties to provide public input by visiting the following Government Link- https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FDA_FRDOC_0001-8787
